The date authorized for the usage of the Map Stamp on regular domestic postage was December 25, 1898, hence the apt description "XMAS STAMP". However the Postal Authorities allowed the usage to begin when the stamps were delivered to Postal Offices. Although some stamps reached the Postal Outlets sooner, the majority began arriving on the 7th of December, and many local postal deliveries were made between December 7th and December 25th.
